Greylox - Call The Cops(1992)(BUZZ 2T)

이미지
A rare(and rather overlooked) hardcore/jungle tune from ‘92. I had first heard it during a B2B set with my man Shins(big up Shins) last year and have been hooked since then. Every time he spins it on the deck the crowd goes wild! Only 500 white labels were pressed at the time so it’s become quite hard to find(and expensive). Would love to own a copy some day hahah…

Dillinja - Sovereign Melody(1994)(D2)

이미지
My most favorite Dillinja tune from ‘94! It’s not a very complex track but you know that sometimes less is more. What really matters is the soul and it seems that a lot of producers today forget that! We have a lot to learn from our predecessors in that regards. Anyway, love the combination of bouncy Dill breaks and melancholic EP chords. The vinyl was repressed on Deep Jungle in 2020 with unreleased VIP mix on the flip.

Flat 47 - Haemoglobin(1993)(KICK 44)

이미지
A wicked ragga jungle track that is well well overlooked. This tune is a prime example that represents the shift from hardcore to jungle in 1993. Dig the blend of Eastern-sounding keys and reggae vocals by Yami Bolo. The pitched up Dr. Alimantado speech sample(also found in Dred Bass) is dope as well!

DJ Gunshot - Black Magic(1994)(NUT-006)

이미지
An excellent darkside tune from ‘94 produced by DJ Gunshot. Lots of amazing works( Bad Boy , Regulators , Wheel Up etc.) from the man but this one really shines. I remember being blown away by the advanced mentasm patterns during my first listen. It must have been quite an achievement in ‘94. The Bell Biv DeVoe sample is a nice touch as well! I think this tune is definitely a precursor to later hardstep No U-Turn sound along with Bludclot Artattack by Ed Rush .

Bizzy B - Twisted Mentazm(1993)(BP-02)

이미지
An underrated hardcore/jungle banger from ‘93. The tempo is unusually fast(around 165BPM) for its time period which I find somewhat interesting. Good ol’ Bizzy B craziness—the tune is full of weird, random samples and bizarre switch-up’s. Some love it, some don’t. However let’s face it; that is the essence of hardcore! Personally I can’t get enough of it. “Bad Boy” on the flip side is also well worth a listen. The wax was recently repressed by B himself so why not grab one from his Bandcamp? If you’re a die-hard collector you can still grab an OG press for a decent price on Discogs as well.

Tranquility Bass - Cantamilla(1994)(ED-012)

이미지
A brilliant downtempo track from ‘94. Even though Tranquility Bass had put out many excellent releases, this version of Cantamilla has to be the strongest and most seminal work from the duo in my opinion.  I particularly dig the (slightly out of tune)vintage synth string at the intro. The Asha Bhosle sample is a cherry on the top as well. A 5 out of 5 tune I must say, just listen!
