Karen Small - That's Why I Cry(1966)

이미지
An overlooked B-side from Karen Small. Not much is known about the artist nor she was a prolific figure but I assure you--everything she touched turned out to be absolute gold! Glad to own a copy myself on vinyl! That's Why I Cry [Verse 1] As I sit alone, I cry I just lost my guy He said he didn't love me So tonight, I cry Oh-ho [Verse 2] I prayed and I prayed all last night That I could feel his arms around me tight [Hook] He broke my heart, so that's why I cry [Verse 3] I gave you everything that I had to give But you just wouldn't be true Please, dear Lord, I know I'm a fool But bring his love back to me [Verse 4] Please, baby, please Come back to me I can't take this misery [Hook] You broke my heart, so that's why I cry

Lil Yo ‎- Youngsta's On A Come Up(1996)

이미지
\ Lil Yo - Youngsta's On A Come Up(1996) A classic Memphis rap/horrorcore album by Lil Yo who is better known as Yo Gotti these days! Listener discretion is advised as the entire album is full of disturbing lyrics. I still think it's a good album worth listening to and I certainly think it has stood the test of time! Pretty amazing to think that Lil Yo was 15 at the time. Lil Yo - Creepin' Lyrics(there are lyrics online but it seems as if some of the lines are incorrect, so I made a few minor changes) [Verse 1] Late at night, on the creep, ballin' down Jackson Street 늦은 밤. 잭슨 가를 천천히 달리고 있었어 Lookin' at my mirror I discovered some niggas that's followin' me 백미러를 보니 개새끼들 몇몇이 날 따라오고 있더군 So I hit my turn and see them get in their car and make a quick left 난 길을 틀었지, 그러니까 그 새끼들이 지들 차에 타서 쫓아오더라고 Ballin' down Watkins, 'cause I'm uh-uh', thinkin' I need some help 달리다 왓킨 가에 이르렀어, 도움이 필요하다고 생각하고 있었지 Pulled up on the corner, saw my brother Big Jook he...

24 Hour Experience - Together(1994, NNR 017)

이미지
Proper ‘94 UKG from Grant Nelson & Si Firmin! It is what got me into the genre back when I was 14 and still holds a place in my heart. Always loved the bouncy double bass bassline! “Allnighter” on the flip is also highly recommended.

Greylox - Call The Cops(1992)(BUZZ 2T)

이미지
A rare(and rather overlooked) hardcore/jungle tune from ‘92. I had first heard it during a B2B set with my man Shins(big up Shins) last year and have been hooked since then. Every time he spins it on the deck the crowd goes wild! Only 500 white labels were pressed at the time so it’s become quite hard to find(and expensive). Would love to own a copy some day hahah…

Dillinja - Sovereign Melody(1994)(D2)

이미지
My most favorite Dillinja tune from ‘94! It’s not a very complex track but you know that sometimes less is more. What really matters is the soul and it seems that a lot of producers today forget that! We have a lot to learn from our predecessors in that regards. Anyway, love the combination of bouncy Dill breaks and melancholic EP chords. The vinyl was repressed on Deep Jungle in 2020 with unreleased VIP mix on the flip.

Flat 47 - Haemoglobin(1993)(KICK 44)

이미지
A wicked ragga jungle track that is well well overlooked. This tune is a prime example that represents the shift from hardcore to jungle in 1993. Dig the blend of Eastern-sounding keys and reggae vocals by Yami Bolo. The pitched up Dr. Alimantado speech sample(also found in Dred Bass) is dope as well!

DJ Gunshot - Black Magic(1994)(NUT-006)

이미지
An excellent darkside tune from ‘94 produced by DJ Gunshot. Lots of amazing works( Bad Boy , Regulators , Wheel Up etc.) from the man but this one really shines. I remember being blown away by the advanced mentasm patterns during my first listen. It must have been quite an achievement in ‘94. The Bell Biv DeVoe sample is a nice touch as well! I think this tune is definitely a precursor to later hardstep No U-Turn sound along with Bludclot Artattack by Ed Rush .
